L earning something new is an art, and you’re never too busy, too old, or too anything to start learning. It’s a gift to continually expand your mind. Since it’s impossible to learn everything, we never need to be bored. Plus, adapting to new experiences and interests keeps us young and vital.
Effective learning should be engaging and enjoyable. Learning involves visual and auditory experiences. Three simple steps can make learning easy.
Someone tells you how to do something. Shows you how, then you do it yourself.
- Think back on how you learned to tie your shoes.
- First, someone told you how to tie your shoes.
- Second, someone showed you how to tie your shoes.
- Third, you follow the instructions and demonstrations, while your mentor gently guides you through completing the task on your own.
Then it’s a matter of practice, practice, practice. This is the most difficult part for some people.
No matter what the learning exercise is, the process remains the same. You might have an instructor or mentor, watch a video, or read. In any case, someone shows you how to perform the next step. Then you observe someone demonstrate the action to gather more auditory and visual cues. Finally, you practice what you’ve learned until it becomes so natural that you don’t have to think about it anymore.
It’s that simple. Tell, show, do.
When we’re willing to be teachable, we can always learn something new. The best experts constantly gather new information and stay open to improvement. Whether you’re an expert or just someone eager to keep learning and growing, this simple method will maximize your results.
If you want your life to feel exhilarating, keep learning. It’s never too late to have a new, enriching experience.
