Winter is a great time of year to check things off your To-Do List. We all have them, even if they quietly linger in the back of our minds. It might be calls you need to make, notes you need to send, or errands you’ve been avoiding for years. Like the roll of film I’d had sitting around for 20 years that finally made its way into my purse and was taken to the film developer. It doesn’t matter that I paid for black-and-white prints that had no real value to me. It felt good to get it off my list.
What’s on your list? Completing small tasks boosts self-esteem. It lifts that invisible cloud that lingers and can prevent us from feeling truly rested during downtime. Take time to add those to-do items to your calendar and make sure to check them off. You’ll discover that these small accomplishments provide a huge sense of achievement.
Don’t have a To-Do list? What better time to create one than right now? Does a room need touch-up paint? Does an item need to be returned? Is there anything in the back of the drawer (such as my undeveloped photos) that needs attention? A closet or garage that needs cleaning or organizing? Pictures that need to be hung? A part that needs replacement or repair? Emails or notes that are long overdue? Write down everything you want to accomplish in 2026 and then start checking things off the list.
Whether you’re tackling something that’s been lingering for too long or adding a new task to your To-Do list, now is the perfect time to start. As freelance writer Robert Brault said, “Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” And the little things in life aren’t always about what we receive, but rather the energy we put out. Let the list begin!
