The seasons can teach us everything we need to know about life, and springtime is no exception. Although warmer climates experience more subtle changes than colder regions, the cosmic pull of new life makes its annual return. Most importantly, regardless of the circumstances, the planet continues to bestow its blessings of new and abundant life.
Spring inspires me to see things anew. If a tiny seed can survive in frozen ground and then persistently nudge its tender green sprout up through the earth’s hardened crust, I can certainly allow new ideas to penetrate my crustiness and resistance. Without this process, there are no new brilliant, colorful flowers to blanket our planet with beauty. The softening of our edges allows us to move in a creative flow.
Recently, while walking along a sidewalk, I came across a small, empty nest that had fallen from a tree. Taking a moment to study the nest, I marveled at the intricate work of gathering and bending nature’s refuse into a cozy home for hatchlings. These nests hold the miracle of new life, which emerges from a hard shield and dares to greet the world with open beaks yearning for food and conversation (bird talk, that is).
The change in temperature melts the ice and snow and brings fresh water to babbling brooks — one of nature’s musicals that always soothes my soul. The cloudy days that give way to sunshine remind me that behind all dismal moments lies a brighter day ahead. As the breeze turns from penetrating cold to cool and refreshing, I feel excited for the return of outdoor activities that welcome the warmth.
During spring, more lovers are seen hand in hand, or kissing and hugging — as if one’s circadian rhythm is pleasantly aligned with nature’s loving forces. This reminds us
that despite all the apparent chaos that comes with strange happenings and stormy times, all is well in the deepest part of nurture and truth. It operates with consistency and certainty, no matter what.
Spring is the season to celebrate our planet’s ongoing renewal—new blooms, new life, new love, and hope for fresh, exciting things to come. As long as new and returning life continues to reach for the light despite significant resistance, we too can rise, and all is well. Let us enjoy this time of rejuvenation and rebirth to restore our faith and our souls.
