When it comes to planning our lives, things don’t always work out, and we’re faced with unexpected choices. You might have heard the expression “The best laid plans of mice and men,” inspired by Robert Burns’ poem To a Mouse. It simply means that no matter how well we plan, things can go wrong. It’s during these times that we have a choice; we can fight the unexpected, or we can go with the flow.

Resisting the inevitable is like swimming upstream against the current. It’s possible to gain something from this, but is it worth the exhaustion? Another option is to flow with the current. In this more relaxed state, our creative minds can work better, and we are open to opportunities that might otherwise be missed. When things don’t go as planned, there is usually a better outcome.

The next time life smacks you with disappointment, try leaning into the feelings as you let go of the outcome. Just wait and see what happens. You might be surprised to find a brighter idea or an unexpected alternative emerging from the universe’s treasure trove. Try this a few times and take note of the outcomes. It won’t take long to realize that getting upset when the best-laid plans don’t work is a miracle in disguise.

Having faith in the unknown requires spiritual maturity. The only way to build that strength is through practice—letting go, going with the flow, and allowing the magic to happen.

Whether you believe it or not, you are entitled to miracles.
