Some people go through life always wanting. They want to buy something, achieve a goal, or find the right people in their lives. But wanting something does not make it happen. If you want to receive something, you must take specific steps to achieve that goal.
Step 1 – Make a list of what you want. I like to use a vision board because they are fun to make and photos or pictures are more effective visuals than words alone, but either method works. Your goals should include everything you want to do, have, or achieve. Once you’ve clearly defined your wants, put them somewhere you’ll see them regularly.
Step 2 – Write down the actions required to achieve your goals. For example, if you want to go to Paris, what must you do to achieve that goal? Save a specific amount of money? Block time on your calendar? If you want to buy a car, do you need to save money, and how long will it take? Do you need to find the best deal? If you have an educational goal, be specific. Where will you explore training options? How long will it take you to finish? What type of support do you need? If you want to meet new people, be specific. Describe them physically and psychologically, then list common interests you want to have with that person.
Step 3 – Lose your excuses. Many people say, “I can’t afford to.” Now learn to say, “How can I afford to?” Instead of saying you don’t have time, ask yourself, “How can I make the time?” If you want to meet new friends or find a romantic relationship, instead of sitting at home, make a list of social situations you can attend. Choose activities you’re interested in, or expand your interests to include something you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t. You won’t meet anyone if you’re isolated. Apps are okay, but only if they take you out of the house.
A final question: “Do you want to spend the rest of your life wanting, or do you want to spend it enjoying what you want? If the latter, put a plan in place and start doing. Time goes on without us. You are meant to fulfill your dreams. Today is the best time to put those dreams into action and watch life take on an entirely new thrill.”
