With all the chaos in our world, it’s tough to stay positive. It sometimes feels like madness has taken over reason. Although none of us is perfect, most people are good at heart. Heroes are among us, and we rarely recognize them because they don’t seek credit for their acts of bravery and love.

Take, for example, the Muslim man, Ahmed al-Ahmed, who was shot twice after overcoming a terrorist in Australia’s mass shooting. Or, Maria Machado, who has risked her life by standing up to the Venezuelan government in an effort to restore democracy. On a smaller scale, the generous gift-giving we witness to those who provide gifts to children who would otherwise be left with little to nothing, of the people who donate large sums of money to organizations that serve those in need. These are the folks we don’t often hear about. Often, they don’t even want to be recognized. They give from their hearts, knowing that their reward is in the act itself.

James Allen writes in As a Man Thinketh that our thoughts control our actions and consequently the outcomes of our lives. In other words, if we want a happy life, it must begin in our thoughts, then our actions. Positive thoughts create positive mental states and outcomes.

Instead of being drawn into the vortex of politics, terrorism, and world affairs that dominate the news, you can do something positive for someone else. You’ll quickly see your mindset shift, turning negative energy into positivity. After all, the holidays are about feeling good. Once you develop a taste for positivity, you might carry that desire into 2026 and beyond as well.
