To resurrect means to return to life. Regarding Easter, resurrection refers to Jesus’ return to life after his crucifixion. However, resurrection means more than physically returning to life. It also applies to resurrecting our souls so that our authentic selves can be free.
Death has many forms. Some people have suffered so much trauma that they’ve checked out and have lost touch with their humanity. Others have struggled too much, and they’ve given up. These individuals are still physically alive but function robotically without a sense of purpose or meaning.
When we resurrect ourselves, we experience a different kind of death: the ego, self-will, pain, and resentment. This can only happen by acknowledging the pain and resentment and moving beyond the ego’s will to keep us stuck. It requires feeling our emotions and releasing them so that new life can emerge from the ashes of the past.
Our healing moments are when we feel and release our pain or reframe our negative experiences into positive lessons in learning and growing. Only then can our bottled-up soul free itself from the bondage of suffering. The choice is ours to make.
Is there something keeping you stuck? Are you willing to let it go and resurrect your soul? You deserve to be joyful. Life will always have challenges, but we can choose how to respond to those difficulties. Hopefully, we will forgive those misfortunes and rise above them with love and comprehensible wisdom. We don’t have to die and be resurrected to go to heaven. We simply need to let go of the hell that keeps us stuck.
